CHRIST LUTHERAN PRESCHOOL PHILOSOPHY
Mission Statement
Christ Lutheran Preschool will provide a Christian based curriculum for preschool children as part of their first experience with formal education. Christ Lutheran Preschool shall serve as the premier early childhood education center in Lake County for whole child development.
Philosophy
Christ Lutheran Preschool shall provide a safe environment to:
- Guide each child in developing mentally, physically, socially, emotionally and spiritually while having fun.
- Create an atmosphere in which the child can explore and satisfy curiosity about the world through hands-on learning.
- Help each child pursue individual interests and develop individual abilities with love, guidance and encouragement.
- Introduce learning concepts for a strong beginning in school fundamentals as licensed by the Illinois State Board of Education.
- Encourage an enthusiasm for continuous learning in each child, using an innovative curriculum.
- Teach each child that God loves us all.
Our philosophy recognizes each child as a unique individual creation of God. Our developmentally appropriate preschool curriculum gives the children the opportunity to grow at their own pace, emotionally, intellectually, socially, spiritually and physically. Our success is a combination of the highest quality programming as well as experienced, educated teachers. A warm and loving learning environment is created to provide an energetic and fun preschool experience.
Our program is designed to help make a smooth and successful transition from home to school by providing a safe and comfortable environment. We create opportunities for peer interaction and contact with knowledgeable and caring Christian teachers. Our positive school atmosphere helps children develop self-confidence and allows their attitudes, skills and curiosity to expand. We encourage responsible behavior in our children, especially group cooperation and concern for others. Our objectives are to stimulate young children to love learning and to grow through positive encouragement.
Christ Lutheran Preschool is self-supporting with private tuition payments. The Christ Lutheran Preschool staff is committed to conducting its programs and activities in the safest manner possible. The welfare of your child is our utmost concern. We insist that all children follow rules and guidelines that have been designed with the student’s wellbeing in mind. Christ Lutheran Preschool does not carry medical accident insurance for injuries sustained in its program. The cost would make our fees prohibitive. Parents should review their own health insurance policy for coverage of any injuries sustained or arising out of activities in this program.
SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
Christ Lutheran Preschool is committed to meeting the needs of each child who attends preschool. Please let us know if we can assist with any special needs or circumstances that may affect your child while at school.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
New and returning students will receive a new school bag at our Meet Your Teacher Day. Feel free to help your child decorate the outside of the bag. Inside, please provide a change of labeled clothes, including socks. Send this bag to school each day. Don’t forget to check for important papers and projects daily!
CLASSROOM SUPPLIES
Please refer to your child’s classroom newsletter and calendar.
ILLNESSES
We ask that your child be symptom free for 24 hours before attending school: fever, nausea, diarrhea, cough or runny nose. Please notify the school immediately if your child has a communicable disease. A health form signed by your physician must be on file for your child to attend class. Standard immunizations are required.
Your child may be sent home if he/she has the following symptoms: cold symptoms (cough, nasal discharge, sore throat, excessive sneezing, diarrhea), fever, fussy, cranky, unusual behavior, extremely tired or symptoms of a communicable disease (such as pink eye).
EMERGENCIES
In the event of an emergency, Countryside Fire Protection District in Vernon Hills (next door) will be called and you would be immediately notified. Please keep all home phone numbers and cell phone numbers current. Also, please remember to keep your cell phone with you and leave it turned on if you are not home during your child’s preschool hours.
MEDICATION
We will store emergency medication here at the school for your child (EPI-Pen, inhaler).
ABSENCES
Please call the preschool if your child will not be attending school (847-367-5791). Provide the reason for not attending and the child’s class or teachers.
DROP OFF AND PICK-UP
All pick-up and drop-off will be from the main parking lot entrance (South Side). Children will be allowed into the school at 8:30 AM (morning classes) and 12:00 PM (afternoon classes). Please walk into the preschool and into the classroom with your child when the doors are opened at class time. The doors will be locked approximately 15 minutes after classes start.
Please pick up your child promptly at 11:00 AM (morning classes) or 2:30 PM (afternoon classes). Proceed all the way into your child’s classroom for pick up. We ask that you hold your child’s hand while walking through the parking lot to your car. Do not park in the striped areas of the parking lot. We reserve the handicapped space for those who truly need it. Call or let the teachers know if you plan an early pick up so that we can accommodate your needs. A fee will be charged for late pick-up ($5/15 min.).
PICK-UP AUTHORIZATION
Your child will be released to only those persons listed on the registration form or pick up authorization form. If you would like to make a change, please notify the school in writing. In the event of an emergency, please call the school for verbal confirmation.
CLOTHING
Please dress your child appropriately for the weather. In winter, boots, snow pants, hats and mittens are required daily. Remember, he/she will have outdoor playtime (weather permitting). Your child will make projects daily, which are sometimes messy. Also, the clothing needs to be easy for the child to remove without assistance. Please avoid belts and overalls. Individual toilet needs will always be accommodated. If your child is still potty-training, use pull-ups while your child is in preschool. PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME.
SNACKS
WE HAVE A PEANUT-FREE AND TREE NUT-FREE SNACK POLICY. PLEASE DO NOT SEND SNACKS OR LUNCHES (FOR LUNCH BUNCH) CONTAINING PEANUT BUTTER OR NUTS OF ANY KIND.
Parents will be assigned days to provide snacks for the entire class. Each day will be assigned a nutritious category, such as Fruit, Vegetable, Bread/Cereal/Cracker or Dairy. Please choose a snack within the category assigned for the day. Include the appropriate number of cups, napkins and snacks for all the children (and teachers) in the class. Please bring UNOPENED 100% fruit juice, milk or small bottles of water. A freezer, microwave and refrigerator are available. Have fun and plan a nutritious snack with your preschooler.
BIRTHDAYS
We love birthdays!! You may send a special treat such as cookies, small cupcakes or ice cream. For summer birthdays, a half birthday may be planned. It has become a wonderful tradition here at Christ Lutheran Preschool that the birthday child donate a favorite book to the school. The book is read to the class and dedicated with your child’s name. Parents may also choose to donate a music CD or CD ROM Macintosh Computer program (OS X operating system) to our library. We are especially grateful for all birthday resource gifts. Your child’s teacher may have some ideas for you.
Please consider Christ Lutheran Preschool when you plan your charitable giving for the year, or around birthdays and holidays!
PARENT CONFERENCES
Individual conferences will be scheduled in the spring. Feel free to express any concerns or questions with your child’s teacher at anytime during the school year. Our program recognizes the importance of parental involvement. We strive to maintain open communication between our school and parents.
FIELD TRIPS
All Christ Lutheran Preschool field trips are family oriented. We do not bus the children at any time. Parents and siblings are encouraged to attend the theater presentation at the Lincolnshire Marriott Children’s Theatre. Additional field trips may be planned for individual age groups.

COMMUNICATION
“Daily Doings,” monthly calendars and teacher newsletters are distributed in your child’s mailbox to keep you informed about our classroom activities, monthly themes and special dates. PLEASE CHECK YOUR CHILD’S SCHOOL BAG DAILY FOR PROJECTS AND ANY VERY IMPORTANT NOTES. In addition, each room has its own bulletin board for special announcements.
DAILY ROUTINES AND SCHEDULES
It is our primary purpose to provide a safe and happy environment for children while they learn important social and academic skills. In addition, we offer many learning opportunities through a variety of stories, songs, art, science and dramatic play. Our curriculum is planned around themes. Monthly class calendars will be distributed listing these learning themes. It is our belief that children learn best through organized play. While doing so, they are gaining important skills for more formal education. Socialization and physical skills are as equally important as the academics. This is called the Early Childhood Developmentally Appropriate Practice Method.
PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
Christ Lutheran Preschool encourages parents to be involved in your child’s preschool education. Consider volunteering to be a substitute teacher, party planner or sharing a special talent or career experience with your child’s class. We encourage moms, dads and grandparents to sign up during our “We Love To Read” month to read a book to the children. Also, please consider joining our “Friends of Christ Lutheran Preschool” fund-raising committee. This committee plans and implements the fund-raising activities for the school year.
Christ Lutheran Preschool admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
