We will have our Valentine’s Day parties on Monday, February 13th and Tuesday, February 14th. Children are encouraged to exchange valentine cards and treats. We ask that you please do not address the outside of the envelopes, but write your child’s name on the back of the cards.

We hope that everyone is having a great New Year! We have many activities planned for the month of February. Some of them include learning about our feelings, celebrating Valentine’s Day, and learning about dinosaurs. We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on February 14 with a party. Children will be exchanging Valentine cards and/or treats (small piece of candy, pencil, etc) during the party. We ask that you please do not address the outside of your child’s envelopes with the names of their classmates. This helps tremendously during the distribution of the cards!
On February 9, we will be having an all-school Pajama Day. Children are asked to wear their pajamas to school and to bring a special bedtime buddy. If your child is uncomfortable wearing pajamas, sweat pants might be an option.
We try to go outside as time and weather allows. Please have your child bring their hats, mittens, boots and snowpants.. It is a little easier if they are brought in a separate bag. That way, there is lots of room in their school bags for all their special projects! Please have everything labeled. Also, please practice having your child put on their own things. They really are doing a great job of this at school!!
We have seen incredible growth in your children’s fine motor skills. Their cutting and writing skills have shown great progress. We ask that when you practice writing your child’s name at home, use the upper and lower case letters as expected by their future teachers. We get as excited as your child when they write a letter or their whole name. Be sure to praise their hard work and effort. I am so proud of their progress!
As always, please feel free to discuss any issues or concerns you may have about your child.

February 2012
Dear Parents,
It’s hard to believe that February has arrived already. How time flies! The weather for January finally cooperated for our “Winter Wonderland” theme, as we all enjoyed several fun days in the snow. We hope there will be more to come. J Thank you for sending your children ready for outdoor play every day, even though we might not be able to go out. It pays to be prepared!
Our themes this month will focus on Feelings and Emotions, St. Valentine’s Day, Presidents’ Day and Dinosaurs. First, we will learn about feelings and reassure that everyone feels happy, sad, excited, lonely, angry or frustrated at one time or another and that it is okay to express those feelings in appropriate ways. Most important though, no matter how someone might be feeling, there is always someone around who loves them. A highlight will be our St. Valentine’s Day Party on Monday, Feb. 13. Please bring a card and/or small treat to be passed out to everyone in the class on that day. Please do not write individual names on the outside. This makes it much easier at distribution time. We will also celebrate our all school Pajama Day on Friday, Feb. 10. On this exciting day the children are encouraged to come dressed in their pajamas, wear slippers, and bring a small pillow or blanket and a cuddly animal to school. Additionally, we will re-open our post office, but this time writing notes or letters to friends at school or loved ones at home. The children can place these special messages in their class mailboxes.
After Valentine’s Day, we will shift gears to make room for some big dinosaurs (activities) that is. J This always popular theme lends itself to a very active imagination, as we will create our own dinosaur land and on the last day watch a volcano erupt.
Some more exciting news – we will have reached our 100th day of school on Friday, Feb. 17. Of course, that calls for a celebration, a 100th day party!!! On that day we are asking that each child bring in a 100 item collection such as pennies, Q-tips, buttons, crayons, pasta, cereal…be creative. Let your child help with the decision making of what to bring to school as well as count the 100 items at home for practice. However, all 100 items need to fit in a plastic bag or small container and be easily carried by your child. Then, on the 17th, we will be displaying everyone’s collections at our 100 museum and doing activities that involve the number 100 all day. FUN, FUN, FUN!!!
Important Dates:
Friday, Feb. 10 – Pajama Day
Monday, Feb. 13 – Valentine’s Day Party
Friday, Feb. 17 – 100th Day Party
Monday, Feb. 20 – NO SCHOOL (Presidents’ Day)
